Virginia B. Gomes

Fall River – Virginia B. Gomes, age 97, of New Bedford, MA passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at St. Anne’s Hospital with her loving family by her side.

Virginia was born in Provincetown, MA to the late Manuel Oliver and Celina (Sousa) Oliver. She had worked for many years as a seamstress for several clothing manufacturers including Elco Dress.

She is survived by her son, Joseph De Sousa and his wife Gloria; grandchildren, Amanda Desroches, Elizabeth Santos and her husband Eric, Jeremy De Sousa and his wife Kaitlyn, Joseph De Sousa and Daniel Fostin and his wife Melissa; 2 great-grandchildren, Tyler and Carter; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Virginia was predeceased by her late siblings, Joseph Oliver, Manuel Oliver, Mary Bettencourt, Ellen Santos and Tony Oliver.

Virginia’s visiting hours will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Perry Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. Her funeral will take place Friday morning, in the funeral home, beginning at 8:30 A.M. with a service to take place at 9:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
