New Bedford – Rosa Pinto Caneira Le, 88, of New Bedford, MA, passed away peacefully on April 24th, 2024.
Born in Lavos Figueira-da-Foz, Portugal, on February 21, 1936, Rosa embraced life close to the sea, finding solace and joy in its embrace. She was the epitome of a "fishwife," tending to the home while her beloved husband, Jose, spent six months of the year fishing and selling their catch in Cova before their journey took them to Bradford, Ontario, Canada. There, they raised their two sons, Joe and Carlos, before eventually settling in New Bedford, MA, where they established Le Lobster, a fish processing and distribution company.
As a tough Portuguese fisherman's wife, she was incredibly resourceful and a hard worker, dreaming big alongside her husband Jose. She had a natural gift for whipping up the best dishes and desserts, earning her the reputation as the best cook in the family. Rosa had a deep passion for dancing Rancho, a love for cooking and baking, and an adventurous spirit that led her to join her husband on fishing trips, where she reveled in the excitement of the catch and the tranquility of nature. She cherished spending time with her granddaughters, and nothing brought her more joy than seeing her great-grandchildren.
Rosa was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Le, and son Carlos Le, of New Bedford, MA. She is survived by her son Joe Le, granddaughter Monique Le Anguiano, her husband Frank, and great-grandson Lincoln and Leonardo Anguiano of Jersey City, NJ, as well as granddaughter Kelly Le Mildfelt, her husband Adam, and great-granddaughter Penelope Mildfelt of Chicago, IL.
Rosa, our beloved mother and Vovó, will always be remembered with profound love and affection. May she rest in eternal peace, reunited with our dear Vovô, Jose Le, and son Carlos in heaven.
