Ronald A. (Ronnie) Roderick, of Marion unexpectedly transitioned from us to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 25th at Rhode Island hospital. Born April 13, 1958, he was 66 years old. He was the son of the late Alfred and Priscilla (Santos) Roderick.
Ronnie is survived by his children, Tanya Rose of Cape Coral, Florida, Ronald Roderick, Jr. of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, and Colby Roderick of New Bedford, MA. He was also the proud grandfather of Zaire Roderick. In addition to his children and grandchild he leaves behind four brothers and four sisters, Alfred Roderick, of California, Anna Norman of North Carolina, Rita Roderick of New Bedford, John Roderick of Roslindale, MA. Joseph Roderick of Marion, Ellen Joseph of Woburn, Priscilla Roderick and Mathew Roderick of Waterbury, CT, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and his life-long and best friend, Charlie Schlaegel.
Ronnie was predeceased in death by his brothers Samuel (Sammy) and Ricardo (Ricky) Roderick, and his sisters Jane (Snookey) and Genevra (Jenny) Roderick.
He was educated in the Marion Public School System and graduated from Old Rochester Regional High School, class of 1977 where he was on the football and basketball teams. He also attended Massasoit Community College and Bristol Community College.
Before his decline in health, Ronnie worked as a landscaper for himself and later at Tabor Academy kitchen where he worked his way up to Manager of the BeeBe Student Lounge.
Ronnie was an avid sports fan. He was a dedicated New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, and Boston Celtics fan. He always made it clear not to call him on Sunday afternoons during football season. He enjoyed landscaping, which he was very knowledgeable about and good at, listening to soul music of the late 60’s and 70’s, and cooking and sharing his cuisine with his neighbors. Above all, Ronnie enjoyed spending time with his family, who he loved dearly.
Ronnie will be truly missed by many.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, August 6th, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford, MA. Visitation and funeral services will be held at Perry Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 7th from 11:00 A.M. -12:00 P.M. with a service to begin at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Marion, MA.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford.
