Mary R. Tavares

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary R. (Almeida) Tavares, aged 92, of Dartmouth and formerly of New Bedford, MA. Mary peacefully passed away on Monday, October 21, 2024, at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Tavares.

Mary was born in St. Michael, Azores, Portugal, and was the beloved daughter of the late Jose Almeida and Palmira (Simoes) Almeida.

She is survived by her children, Joseph Tavares, Steven Tavares, and Debra Borden; several grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; her sister, Teresa and her late husband Mario; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary played a significant role in the lives of her grandchildren, Samantha Bernardo and Stephen Tavares, taking them in at a very young age they were more than just grandchildren to her she saw them as her children. 

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family as they go through this difficult time.

Mary’s visiting hours and funeral service will be held at Perry Funeral Home on Thursday, October 24, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a service to take place during this time. Burial will be private.
