Maria Amaral

New Bedford – Maria (Vieira) Amaral, age 95, of New Bedford, MA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Silvino de Amaral.

Maria was born in Povoação, São Miguel, Azores to the late Manuel Vieira and Georgina (Borges) Vieira. She had been a seamstress at Vanessa Manufacturing for many years. Maria had been a former member of the Holy Ghost Society at Mount Carmel Church and loved to cook for her family especially Sunday lunches. She was happiest in her kitchen surrounded by her family.  

Maria is survived by her children, Matilda Amaral and her husband Manuel of Dartmouth, Connie Andrade and her husband John of Dartmouth and Nelson Amaral and his wife Giselle of Dartmouth; 5 grandchildren, Brian, Derek, Stacey, Felicia and TJ; 9 great-grandchildren, Hailey, Ava, Aubrey, Hunter, Sofia, Zackary, Charlotte, Parker and Olivia; her brother, John Vieira of Cape Cod; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by several brothers. 

Maria’s visiting hours will be held at Perry Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 from 5:00 P.M.- 8:00 P.M. Her funeral will take place on Thursday, beginning in the funeral home at 9:00 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
