Manuel P. Madruga, age 88, beloved husband of Margarida M. Madruga, peacefully passed away on May 14, 2024, after a period of declining health, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on January 28, 1936, in Terra do Pao, Pico, Azores, Manuel was the son of Antonio P. Madruga and Rosa Pereira Madruga. He initially worked as a farmer before immigrating to the United States in January 1981. In his new home, he dedicated himself to hard work, serving as a laborer and landscaper until his well-deserved retirement.
Manuel cherished every moment spent with his family and took great pleasure in his afternoon naps. He found joy in cultivating his garden, nurturing it with care and dedication.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Margarida M. Madruga, and his loving children: Manuel M. Madruga and his wife Connie of New Bedford, Jose Madruga and his wife Maria of Acushnet, John Madruga and his wife Judy of Dartmouth, Carlos Madruga and his wife Lisa of New Bedford, and Ligia Charkowski and her husband Scott of New Bedford. Manuel also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren to cherish his memory.
Manuel was predeceased by his brother, Antonio Madruga, and his granddaughter, Lauren Madruga.
Manuel's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
Manuel’s visiting hours and funeral services will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024 at Perry Funeral Home from 8:00 A.M. – 9:30 A.M. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.
