New Bedford - Luis M. Mota, age 82, of New Bedford, MA passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at his home with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Teresinha R. (Cordeiro) Mota, sharing a life full of cherished moments and love.
Born on December 2, 1942, in Agua de Pau, Sao Miguel, Azores, Luis was the son of the late Luis F. Mota and Angelina C. (Ferreira) Mota. His journey began in Portugal, where he proudly served in the Air Force. He later relocated to the United States, where he settled down in New Bedford. Throughout his career, Luis dedicated himself as a machine operator for Johnson & Johnson, demonstrating his strong work ethic and commitment to providing for his family.
Luis possessed a deep passion for soccer, particularly for his favorite team, Sporting. Those who knew him will fondly remember his enthusiastic spirit when watching a game, often sharing his love of the sport with family and friends.
Luis is survived by his loving wife, Teresinha Mota; his daughter, Joyce T. Vangel and her husband Jason Vangel; his grandchildren, Jaylyn Vangel and Jessie Vangel; his brother, Fernando G. Mota; as well as his godchildren, Michelle da Silva and Michael Motta. Each of these relationships carried immense significance in Luis’s life, and he cherished the bonds that connected him to them.
Visiting hours and funeral services for Luis will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025. Visiting hours will take place from 9:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 11:30 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in South Dartmouth Cemetery.
