Joseph C. Cabral

Acushnet – Joseph C. Cabral, age 79, of Acushnet, MA passed away on Friday, February 16, 2024 after a brief illness. 

Joseph was born in Lagoa, Azores, Portugal to the late Jose deMedeiros Cabral and Maria Isabel (Silva) Cabral. He came to the United States in 1954 and had been a longtime resident of Acushnet. 

Joe had been a beloved son, brother and uncle. He was predeceased by his siblings, Hermano Cabral, Arnoldo Cabral, Raul Cabral, Albert Cabral and Maria Ribeiro; as well as his late nephew, Michael Ladino. He is survived by his siblings, Lilia Cabral, Edward Cabral and Donna Branco; godchildren, Rosemary Neto-Hazzard and Sherri Sturgeon; as well as over a dozen nieces, nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Joseph had been a veteran and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. At home, Joe worked for many years in produce, beginning with Fernandes Supermarket and later for Friendly Fruit. In his younger days, he had been involved in the Mt. Carmel CYO and local Portuguese Soccer Leagues, Portuguese Sports Clube and Club Falense.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Joseph’s memory to the VFW 6643, PO Box 511, East Freetown, MA 02717

Joseph’s visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at Perry Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. His funeral will take place Thursday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 9:00 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in St. John Cemetery.
