Jose Domingos Melo

New Bedford – Jose Domingos Melo, age 83, of New Bedford, MA passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2024 at home with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Maria do Anjos (Cardoso) Melo of New Bedford.

Jose Domingos Melo was born in Ribeira Quente, Sao Miguel, Açores to the late Estrela (Amaral) Melo and Mariano Melo. He came to this country in 1974 and started his career with the late Carlos Vinagre on the fishing vessel, Beira Mar. 

Jose loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends. He also loved when he was able to travel back to his home town for visits and was an avid Benfica fan.

Jose Domingos is survived by his loving wife, Maria do Anjos Melo; his sons, Paulo Melo, Antonio Melo and his wife Sherry Barbosa-Melo, Helder Melo and his wife Haley Melo; grandchildren, Alexander Melo and Gabrielle Melo.

He was also the loving brother to Estrela Linhares, the late Antonio Linhares, Antonio Melo and his companion Fatima Medeiros, Filomena Martins and her husband Frederick Martins, Conceicao Costa and her husband John Costa, John Melo and his wife Bertha Melo, sister-in-law, Benilde Melo; as well as several nieces and nephews and a friend to many.

Jose’s visiting hours and funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2024. Visiting hours will be held at Perry Funeral Home from 8:00 A.M. – 9:30 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.
