Dartmouth – Jose M. Martins, age 78, of New Bedford, passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2024 at Brandon Woods Dartmouth with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Maria DeLurdes (Miguel) Martins.

Jose was born in Agua de Pau, Sao Miguel, Azores to the late Virginio de Espirito Santo Martins and Maria do Carmo (Soares) Martins. He had worked as a machine operator for Gaspar’s Linguica for many years. He enjoyed going for walks, gardening and helping others.

He is survived by his wife, Maria DeLurdes Martins; his daughter, Donaria M. Medeiros and her husband Paul; his son, Paul A. Martins; as well as his 2 grandchildren, Dylan A. Medeiros and Samantha L. Medeiros.

He was predeceased by his brother, Norberto Martins.

Jose’s visiting hours and funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2024. Visiting hours will be held at Perry Funeral Home from 8:00 A.M. – 9:30 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford.
