Jose Linhares

New Bedford – Jose Linhares, age 89, of New Bedford passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Maria (Couto) Linhares.

Joao was born in Sao Miguel, Azores to the late Manuel Linhares and Maria (Goncalves) Linhares. Jose worked for many years with Eastern Sportswear doing custodial work.

Jose is survived by his children, David J. Linhares and his wife Ana, Daniel G Linhares, and Evangeline Melo and her husband Jose; his grandsons Jesse Linhares, Steve Linhares, Shawn Melo, and Corey Melo; his granddaughter Kayla Melo; his Great-Grandchildren Jayla, Liam, Avery, Autumn, and Alayah; his brothers Daniel Linhares, and Manuel Linhares; as well as many nieces nephews and cousins.

Jose was predeceased by his beloved wife Maria Linhares; and his siblings Blandina Linhares, Joao Linhares, and Antonio Linhares.

Jose’s visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at Perry Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. His funeral service will take place on Wednesday, October 25, starting at Perry Funeral Home at 9:00 A.M. – 10:00 A.M. and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.
