Joao M. Silveira

May 12, 1955 - September 1, 2024

Joao Silveira has passed away at the age of 69. In just a few months he was diagnosed with a blood disorder called Antiphospholipid syndrome. He was in the hospital for two months and had multiple surgeries. Although he was suffering you could see the fight in his eyes to push through and get better. Everyday Joao was always surrounded by loved ones at the hospital even until his last breath. We will always Love You Joao. The funeral will be a private ceremony with family and close friends.

Joao Silveira was born in Faial, Azores to the late Henrique and Maria Silveira and he came to America in 1972. He had many jobs before pursuing his passion in Carpentry. Joao started his career working along side his Uncle John and then started his own company. He did this for over 40 years. Joao was a drummer in two Portuguese bands called “The Cats” and “The Capitalistas” for a couple years, playing at weddings and festivals. He loved to watch soccer, and his favorite team was Benfica. Joao had a great personality and everyone around him loved his humor. He was always in a good mood, and you could tell that he was genuinely happy. Joao will be greatly missed by all who were part of his life. His memory will live on through everyone who knew him and all the building structures he built around the state. His legacy will continue on through his family.

Joao is survived by his spouse, Maria J. Silveira; siblings, Jorge Silveira and his wife Lina, Arcelino Silveira and his wife Maria, Joe Silveira and Fatima DaPonte and her husband Alvaro; his daughters, Carla Moe and her husband Erling “Buzzy”; Cleide Art and her husband Jonah; stepchildren, Monica Barboza and her husband Jason and Phyllip Lameiro and his wife Kristen.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Maxwell, Ela, Larson, Charlie, Alice, Noah, Lily, Cienna, Brooklyn and Aaliyah; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford.
