Fort Myers, Florida – Irene Silva, age 94, Passed away peacefully on Monday, October 2, 2023 with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Walter G. Silva.
Irene was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts to the late Joao da Silva and Maria C. (Pinheiro) Silva. She worked for many years in office administration as a bookkeeper.
Irene was more than anything all about her family, always made sure to celebrate every holiday as a group. She was also an avid sports fan, loving every Boston team. Her first Red Sox game was when she was 10 years old. She and a cousin snuck off, took the bus to Boston to see a game. She was caught by a Sister who saw them at the game but didn’t tell on her. She also loved word searches and watching game shows, and was passionate and skillful with crochet and needlework. Her creations live on with those who had been given her gifts. Irene also enjoyed travelling, spending numerous summers in Madeira while exploring her ancestry, and notably making trips to Rome and the Vatican, Paris and Lourdes, Lisbon and Fatima.
Irene is survived by her children M. Cathy Turner and her husband Kevin, Walter G. Silva Jr. and his wife Dianne, Michael J. Silva and his wife MaryAlice, Irene A. Silva and her husband Donald Parks, and John Silva and his wife Amy; her grandchildren Michael Turner, Katelyn Turner, Melissa Silva, Daniel Silva, Samantha Parks, Sarah Silva, Jennifer Silva, Michele Silva, Brian Parks, Olivia Silva and Emma Silva; and her great-grandson Anthony Savittieri.
Irene was predeceased by her loving husband Walter G. Silva; and her brother Anibal G. Silva
Irene’s funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 starting at Perry Funeral Home at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel church at 10:00 A.M. burial to immediately follow at St. John’s Cemetery.
