Irene Freitas

New Bedford – Irene (Santos) Freitas, age 90, of Acushnet, MA passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024 at St. Luke’s Hospital with her loving family by her side.

Irene was born in New Bedford, MA to the late Gloria (Brum) and Mariano Santos. She worked as a manager at Night and Look Campground. She loved her puzzles and crosswords, and was loved by everyone who knew her and her feisty personality.

She is survived by her grandchildren, Roxanne M. Costa, Dana M. Costa and his wife Terin; great-grandchildren, Alexis Lafontaine, Kasen Costa, and Courtlan Costa; great-great-grandson, Elias McCalla. She was also the sister of the late Johnny “Jessie” Santos, Mariano Junior Santos, Gloria Santos and Natalie Santos.

The family would also like to thank Alden Court for their exceptional care of their Nana over the past 7 months. She very much enjoyed her time there and the special bonds she created. Especially with one of her lovely CNA’s Maddison Costa. They would also like to thank from the bottom of their hearts the nurses at St. Luke’s Hospital, Stephanie, Beth F., Beth and Serita for their compassion, support and phenomenal care they took care of their Nana on her final days. 

Per Irene’s wishes, there will be no services.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford MA.
