Idalina Pereira Carvalho

New Bedford – Idalina Pereira (Mano) Carvalho, age 82, of Dartmouth, MA passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Fernando Carvalho.

Idalina was born in Gala-São Pedro, Figueira da Foz, Portugal to the late Mario Mano and Rosa (Pereira) Mano. Idalina immigrated to Mozambique, where she met her husband Fernando and from there, moved to South Africa. In 1977, they immigrated to New Bedford, MA. She was trained by Singer Co. to stitch and went on to work as a stitcher for several clothing factories in the New Bedford area. Upon her retirement, she spent time in both Portugal and the USA and moved back to this area due to her health illness.

In her free time, she loved to crochet, sew and cross stitch. She loved the beach and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Idalina is survived by her daughters, Cristina (Carvalho) Pereira and her husband Jose and Sandra (Carvalho) Pires and her husband Nuno; grandchildren, Alexandre DeAraujo, Andre Pires and Sabrina Pires; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Idalina’s Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, December 18, 2023 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 A.M. All attendees are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Cremation to follow.
