New Bedford – Gilberto R. Buxo, age 78, of New Bedford, MA passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at St. Luke’s Hospital with his loving family by his side.
Born in New Bedford, MA, he was the beloved son of the late Francisco Buxo and Maria T. (Macedo) Buxo. He had worked for Sunbeam Bakery for many years.
Gilberto is survived by his siblings, Dalila Coelho, Joyce Jorge and her husband Manuel Jorge and Francisco R. Buxo and his wife Ana Buxo; nieces and nephews, Adriana Coelho, Carlos Coelho, Angelo Coelho, Cristina Coelho, Claudio Coelho, Andre Coelho, Suzie Jorge-Grant, Kathleen Kirkendall, Dorothy Lisak, Amanda Buxo; as well as many cousins and great nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Fernanda Buxo and brother-in-law of the late Francisco A. Coelho.
Gilberto found immense joy spending quality time with his family, cherishing every moment shared over friendly card games and lively conversations. As a devoted life-long member of Club Madeirense S.S.Sacramento Inc. and Madeira Feast member, he embraced its sense of community, creating friendships over shared traditions and cultural heritage. Among his many roles, Gilberto took great pride in being an uncle, radiating warmth and affection towards his nieces and nephews, their laughter and achievements bringing him immeasurable happiness and fulfillment.
Gilberto’s visiting hours will be will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Perry Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. His funeral will take place on Friday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 9:00 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford MA.
