Gilbert DeMello, Jr.

New Bedford – Gilbert DeMello, Jr., age 74, of Dartmouth passed away on Friday, October 27, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Dolores (Araujo) DeMello.

Gilbert was born in New Bedford, MA to the late Gilbert DeMello and Laura (Santos) DeMello.  He had been a bookkeeper for the Acushnet Public School System for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores DeMello; his children, Matthew DeMello and his wife Tracey and Laura Batista and her husband Rui; grandchildren, Victoria Batista, Ethan Batista, Toni Balestra and her husband Chris Balestra; sister, Kathleen Wilder and her husband Doug; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Gilbert’s Mass with his cremains will be held on Monday, November 13, 2023 at St Mary’s Church in Dartmouth at 10:00 A.M. Everyone is kindly asked to meet directly at Church. Burial will immediately follow in South Dartmouth Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford MA.
