San Francisco, CA

Francisco J. “Frank” Vieira, Jr., of South San Francisco, CA passed peacefully on August 15, 2024. Born in Stonington, CT on August 31, 1954, he was the eldest child of Francisco J. Vieira and Mary Celeste (Rebello) Vieira. He was raised in New Bedford and graduated from Bishop Stang High School in 1972. Frank graduated from Stonehill College and attended MA College of Pharmacy.

Frank had a passion for older homes and historic building restoration and preservation. He owned Quality Restorations, a home remodeling business, and participated in many development projects in New Bedford’s historic district. Frank’s dedication to the building and renovation of fine and historic homes continued after moving to San Francisco in 1991, working for Plath and Company, Inc. for over 20 years. Frank’s artistry was recognized, and he received many awards, both in New Bedford and the Bay Area.

Frank loved giving back to the community in which he lived, especially to help preserve its history. He served on the South San Francisco Historical Commission and the SSF City Planning Commission over a period of 30 years. He was immensely proud of being an Eagle Scout and enjoyed mentoring, teaching, and promoting less experienced craftspeople. When not busy renovating his own 1902 Queen Anne Victorian in South San Francisco, he spent time following Bay Area sports teams and playing golf. He remained devoted to his parents and siblings over his lifetime.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife/partner of 37 years Fhelica Nafe, his daughter Kristen Vieira and husband John Hartland of Deland, Florida, and his sister Regina C. Vieira-Whitman and her spouse Gregory Whitman of Granville, MA. and his two brothers Paul E. Vieira and his partner Jan Badger of New Bedford and Alfred A. Vieira and his spouse Claudia (Long) Vieira of Oakland, CA. Also survived by his mother-in-law, Genevee Newton, brother-in-law, Darren Thigpen of South San Francisco, sister-in-law, Katrina and husband Bobby Loosier of Moulton, AL, and sister-in-law, Tena and husband Kevin Smith of Leighton, AL as well as many nieces and nephews.
