New Bedford – Delfina Alice “Velinha” (Avila) Dias, age 98, of New Bedford, MA, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at Sacred Heart Nursing Home with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Mario Dias and former beloved wife of the late Ildo Da Costa.
Delfina was born in Horta, Faial, Azores and was the daughter of the late Francisco Pereira Avila and Cecilia De Jesus (Branco) Avila. She had worked for Davidson’s Meat Products for many years. She loved cooking, crocheting and watching Spanish soap operas. Delfina, most importantly, loved spending time with her family and made sure to boast about her family every chance that arose.
Delfina is survived by her daughter, Ilda Pacheco and her husband Manuel; 2 grandchildren, Sonia Pacheco and her companion Joseph Winsper and Kylene Pacheco and her companion Kevin Rudolph; 5 great-grandchildren; Skyla Grady, Kalil Grady, Kyvon Rudolph, Kyrae Rudolph and Preston Pereira; her brother, Jose Avila; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her late siblings, Antonio Avila, Francisco Avila, Manuel Avila, Helena Da Costa and Maria Eugenio.
Delfina’s visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2024 at Perry Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. Her funeral will take place on Thursday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 9:00 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in St. John Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford.
