Brittney Lee Tavares, took her last breath fighting a three-year battle with cancer on August 27, 2023. She was only 35 years young.
Brittney went to Greater New Bedford High School where she met her husband Ryan Tavares at the age of 14 and they remained together for 21 years. She went on to graduate Bridgewater University with a bachelor degree in early childhood education driven by her love for children.
In the following years she would be a stay-at-home dog mom and wife. Taking advantage of this time to road trip, explore, and love with her husband and two boxer dogs (her babies) She found a knack for making cupcakes and was known as the “cupcake queen” by many. She also volunteered at the animal shelter as often as possible and had a true passion for giving back to our community and others around her.
Brittney then became a mother in April of 2019 with the birth of her son Easton and shifted gears to directing her time and focus on being the best mother she could. Her family was blessed again in December of 2020 with the arrival of Ryan, a beautiful little girl. Where she was devastatingly also diagnosed with breast Cancer days later and the battle began.
Brittney had the biggest heart and the most beautiful smile. She carried a light and love around her that instantly drew people in. She was a private and quiet person, but also very sassy and the life of the party if you could get her to go! As strong and fierce as she was, she was also incredibly compassionate. She loved the beach and searching for sea glass for hours, and being by the ocean. She was strong-willed and stubborn, but those traits defined Brittney. They were part of who she was, they helped her fight tooth and nail and she never gave up once.
Brittney valued being a mother above all else. Her two kids were why she never stopped trying. She showed them how to be strong even when you didn’t feel like it, but also how to be soft and patient even when you were overwhelmed. Brittney was a prime example of what a mother strives to be.
Brittney touched and influenced everyone who knew her and even those who didn’t. She will be truly missed but never truly gone as she continues to motivate and inspire us all.
Brittney Tavares was also survived by her mother Wendy Bettencourt and husband Trevor Bettencourt, Father Paul Vaughan and wife Donna Vaughan, Brother Trevor Vaughan and wife Heather Vaughan, Grandfather Thomas F Osswald Jr, pre-deceased and his wife Pamela Osswald, Late Grandmother Carol A Vaughan along with several step brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
In true Brittney fashion we will not be holding any services. Instead, we will be hosting a Celebration of her Life and the joy and happiness she spread. A date and time to be announced.
