New Bedford – Arthur G. Souza December 28, 1937 - October 13, 2024
Arthur G. Souza, age 86, of New Bedford, MA passed away on Sunday, October 13, 2024 with his loving family by his side at Vantage Care and Rehabilitation of New Bedford, MA. He was the beloved husband of Carmen V. (Loveridge) Souza, “Twinkle,” with whom he shared 62 wonderful years of marriage. Such a loving dad to his daughter Christine M. (Souza) Cordeiro and her husband (the son he never had) Joseph C. Cordeiro and the most precious grandpa/gramps to Jaimie N. Cordeiro and Haden M. Cordeiro.
Art was born in New Bedford, MA and was the devoted son to the late Gilbert M. Souza and the late Maria (Moniz) Souza. He has one brother, the late Raymond M. Souza of Alexandria, Virginia. Art worked at Revere Copper and Brass in New Bedford, MA for 41 years as a machine operator. He was truly loved by his co-workers and enjoyed his job.
Above all, Art loved spending time with the most important to him, his family. He adored “Twink” and always told her that no one will ever love her like he does. He enjoyed late night movies, snacks, and will always be remembered for his love for all sports, especially baseball. A great second baseman who was scouted by the New York Yankees. Art was known to many as “Coach” and a “Legend” in his own right. Art enjoyed bowling, long walks, playing cards with friends and loved walking into their home every Saturday with the most beautiful, colorful flowers for his loving wife and soulmate. He loved telling jokes, making people laugh, doing card tricks and being remembered for having the most beautiful smile and “playful smirk.”
He loved his grandchildren with his whole heart and was so proud to share in their after-school activities. He so enjoyed with so much excitement watching them both play sports. Art enjoyed bringing his wife and daughter Homlyke Bakery treats on the weekend and surprising them with late night pizza and grinders. Art was a kind-hearted gentle man. A man of unshakeable Faith. A devout Christian who was a true Shepard of the Lord. He had a strong work ethic and was committed to his job and co-workers. He enjoyed crabbing on a sunny Sunday with his daughter/grandchildren and loved his family and friends so genuinely. Art was loved by many and he will be missed more than words could ever say. The family would like to thank the many compassionate, respectful, loving Nurses and Certified Nurses Aides for their excellent care that they provided for Art over the last two years. The family would also like to thank the many family and friends taking time out of their busy schedules to visit him and make him smile.
Art is survived by his loving, devoted wife Carmen V. (Loveridge) Souza, “Twink” loving daughter Christine M. (Souza) Cordeiro and her extremely supportive husband Joseph C. Cordeiro. He is also survived by his beautiful grandchildren, Jaimie N. Cordeiro and Haden M. Cordeiro.
