New Bedford – Alvin Francis Magnett, age 82, of East Freetown, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 18, 2024 at St. Luke’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Shirley A. (Ramos) Magnett.
Alvin was born in New Bedford, MA to the late Andrew Magnett and Ann (Lopes) Magnett. He had worked as a crane operator for the Local 4 Union.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley A. Magnett; his 2 sons, Mark D. Magnett and his wife Kimberly Magnett of Rochester and Swede M. Magnett and his wife Amy Magnett of East Freetown; grandchildren, Morgan, Christina and Brayden Magnett and his sister, Carol Lane of South Carolina; sister-in-law, Annie Toddman and her husband John of New Bedford and a brother-in-law, John Ramos of Taunton. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his late brothers, James Magnett, Ronald Magnett, Andrew Magnett and Robert M. Magnett and by his late sisters, Beverly Magnett Nobre and Audrey Shorts.
A Mass will be held for Alvin with his cremains on Friday, September 6, 2024 at St. John Neumann Church in Freetown, MA at 10:00 A.M. Alvin’s family will receive guests from 9:00 A.M. – 9:45 A.M. at the Church prior to the Mass.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford.
