Almorinda ( Camara ) Silva 94 of South Dartmouth passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 16. Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Manual and Maria Camara of Sao Miguel, Portugal (Azores.) She was previously married to the late Edmund D. Tweedy Jr., and subsequently married to and predeceased by the late James C. Silva.
Almorinda was a loving, caring, mother and grandmother, who devoted her life to her family and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She had many interests and was a talented artist who enjoyed painting, playing the piano, was an avid bowler, and enjoyed playing chess, card games, word games, bingo and was a person of deep faith and love of God with a special affinity and closeness to St. Jude.
Almorinda worked as a nurse’s aide for many years both in nursing homes and in private duty, always showing much compassion, kindness and patience to those she cared for.
She is survived by her children, Kathleen Costa, Edmund D. Tweedy III and wife Elizabeth, Thomas Tweedy and husband Mark, Michael Anthony, Jacqueline Pisano and is predeceased by two sons, Kevin and Steven; grandchildren Rhonda ,Sherri , Edmund D. Tweedy IV, Mark, Brittany and Meagan; great grandchildren Edmund D. Tweedy V, Vanessa, Addison, Hailey, Nicolas, Noah, and Lilliana as well as great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Almorinda was predeceased by her siblings Roland Camara, Manuel Camara, Lillian Gray, and Claire Martin.
A private funeral service for family members is taking place this Friday at Perry Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
