New Bedford – Abilio Macedo, age 77, of New Bedford, MA passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Matilde (Monteiro) Macedo, with whom he shared more than 60 years of marriage together.
Abilio was born in Brava, Cape Verde and was the loving son of the late Antonio Gomes and Ana Monteiro Macedo. He had worked as an operator for Acushnet Rubber Company for many years.
Abilio is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Macedo; his son, George Duarte; grandchildren, Marquis, Tevin, Rick and Tiannah; great-grandchildren, Jamahrie, Phoebe, Indigo, Julius and Zoe; brothers, Boaventura Cardoso, Fernando Gomes, António Gomes, Pedro Gomes, António Fortes, José Fortes, John Gomes and Tony Gomes; sisters, Domingas Fortes, Clarinda Gomes, Laurada Graça, Eugénia Azevedo and Sherleen Tavares; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his late sisters and late brothers, Quiteria Gomes, Maria Correia, Ana Rocha, Tété Gomes, Claricia Gomes, Manuel Cardoso and Adelino Gomes.
Abilio’s visiting hours will be held on Tuesday evening, March 26, 2024 from 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. His funeral will take place on Wednesday morning, beginning in the funeral home at 9:00 A.M. and followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Assumption Church at 10:00 A.M. Burial will immediately follow in Rural Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth Street, New Bedford MA.
