Humberto Pereira Duarte

New Bedford – Humberto Pereira Duarte, age 76, died Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Mr. Duarte was the loving husband of Mariana (Carvalho) Duarte of New Bedford for over 49 years.
He was the father of Mario husband of Susana Duarte, Laudalino husband of Lidia Duarte, Paulo Duarte fiancee of Glenda Sylvia, Donna wife of David DaCosta, Grace Duarte, Elizabete Duarte and the late Rui Duarte. Mr. Duarte was the grandfather of Tabitha, Tiffani, Kyle, Joshua, Brandon, Matthew, Caitlin, Kelsie, Timothy, Dylan, Ethan, Paul Jr., Zachary and Trenton, 3 great grandsons and 1 great granddaughter. Humberto was the brother of the late Manuel Pereira Duarte.
Mr. Duarte was born in Freguesia de Ginetes, Sao Miguel, Azores. Humberto was a son of the late Silvano Pereira Duarte and Capitolina (Medeiros) Dias. He worked as a mason in Sao Miguel until he immigrated to the United States on Sept. 14, 1974. Here he worked as a weaver at Berkshire Hathaway from 1974 until the closing of the factory and retired from Quaker Fabrics in Fall River in 1999. Humberto was a member of the Our Lady of Angels Band. His hobbies included the gardening of his yard.

Mr. Duarte’s funeral will be Saturday at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 7:45 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. John the Baptist Church at 8:45 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Friday evening from 5 - 8 P.M.
