Barbara Sylvia

New Bedford– Barbara A. (Lawrence) Sylvia, age 79, died Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Saint Luke’s Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Edwin “Porky” Sylvia of New Bedford, who died April 2, 2011. Barbara was the loved mother of Gary E. Sylvia of New Bedford, Michael P. Sylvia of Dartmouth and Kenneth L. Sylvia of Ocala; FL. Mrs. Sylvia was the grandmother of Katelyn Sylvia of New Bedford, Kevin M. Sylvia of Dartmouth and Jerreth Sylvia of Florida and great-grandmother of Jeremy Batista and Justin Coelho. Barbara was the sister of Marilyn Frasier of Dartmouth, Shirley Desrosiers of Westport and the late Vernon Lawrence. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Sylvia was a daughter of the late Charles and Ruth (Rigby) Lawrence. Barbara was born in Pawtucket, RI. and lived in this area most of her life. She was the secretary and owner of Clarks Cove Fish Co. for over 50 years. Mrs. Sylvia was a graduate of Dartmouth High School where she graduated with high honors. She enjoyed reading and working in her garden.
Mrs. Sylvia’s visiting hours are Friday evening from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be private.
