Elsie M. (Mello) Sylvia

New Bedford – Elsie M. Sylvia, age 88 years, died Monday, June 6, 2011, at Sacred Heart Home. She was the wife of the late John B. Sylvia. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by several brothers Simon Cabral, Gilbert Cabral, Virginio Mello Dorvelino (Dave) Cabral and Edmond Mello. Edmond’s wife Gloria Mello is of Dartmouth.

Mrs. Sylvia was born in Fall River and has lived in the New Bedford area all her life. She was a daughter of the late Maria (Souza) and Jose Cabral Mello. Mrs. Sylvia worked at various mills as an examiner until her retirement.

Mrs. Sylvia’s funeral will be Friday at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 8 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours are Thursday evening from 5-8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
