Delmar H. (Tavares) Silvia

New Bedford– Delmar H. (Tavares) Silvia, age 77, died Sunday, May 15, 2011 at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the wife of late John Silvia Jr. Mrs. Silvia was the mother of Michael J. Silvia of New Bedford and Elaine Mendes and her husband Jerry of Rochester, MA. Mrs. Silvia was the sister of the late Manuel Frasier. She was also the grandmother of Scott Costa, Christopher Costa, Amanda Souza, Kaitlin Silvia, and Taylor Silvia, 2 step grandchildren, 1 step great grandchild, several nieces, nephews and one goddaughter

Mrs. Silvia was a daughter of the late Isabel (Vieira) and John Tavares. She was born in New Bedford and lived in Dartmouth for several years until returning to New Bedford in 1984. Delmar was a graduate of New Bedford High School and Kinyon Secretarial School. She was employed by the Commonwealth of MA, Welfare Department for 40 yrs, retiring in 1990.

She enjoyed traveling, especially to NH with her husband and children. She enjoyed reading, her “soaps”, exploring on her computer, cook outs, and holiday dinners with her family

At her request, her funeral and burial were private Arrangements were by Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. New Bedford, MA.
