Maria C. Luiz

New Bedford – Maria C. Luiz, age 96 years, died Wednesday, May 11th, 2011, at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Guilherme S. Luiz. Mother of Maria Lima and her husband Mario of New Bedford, grandmother of Anna Oliveira and her husband Larry of New Bedford, and Teresa Lima of Beverly Ma. Maria is also survived by 2 sisters Maria Botelho and Maria Fernandes and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by several brothers and sisters.

Mrs Luiz was born in New Bedford, moved to Terceira, Azores at the age of 3 and moved back to New Bedford in 1961. She was the daughter of the late Leonor (Augusta) and Jose Verissimo. Maria worked as a stitcher for Arlene Fashion until her retirement.

Mrs Luiz’s funeral will be Saturday at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 8:00 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow at St Johns Cemetery. Visiting hours are Friday evening from 4 – 7 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
