Manuel S. Costa

New Bedford – Manuel S. Costa Jr., age 71 years, died Tuesday, May 10th, 2011, peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Violante F. (Farias) Costa who passed June 5th of last year. Mr. Costa was the Father of Benvinda Costa-Reedy wife of Mark Reedy and John M. Costa both of New Bedford and grandmother of Amanda and Alexander Santos both of New Bedford. Manuel was a brother of Jose Costa, Joao Costa and Benvinda Pimentel all of Dartmouth, Maria Helena Martins of Toronto Canada and the late Maria doCarmo Araujo. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Costa was born in Bretanha, São Miguel, and Açores and has lived in this area since 1964. He was a son of the late Benvinda (Arruda) Costa and Manuel and Olinda S. Costa. He worked as a laborer for the L.I.U.N.A. Local # 385, after retirement he later worked for Luzo Bank.

Mr. Costa’s funeral will be Monday at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours are Sunday evening from 5 – 9 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Costa Memorial Fund, to be used for works of mercy in his memory.
