Centerville, MA. Earl L. Holden died January 26, 2004 at Cape Regency Nursing Home in Centerville. He was the loving husband of Dorothy (Gill) Holden of Centerville and Fort Lauderdale, FL. He was the father of Donna H. Maxfield of Marion, Joyce R. Francis of East Bridgewater, and Pamela S. Craig of Islamorada, FL.. He was the grandfather of Eric Holden Maxfield and the great-grandfather of Holden Maxfield, both of Colorado. He was the brother of the late Russell Holden.
Mr. Holden was the son of the late Samuel and Alice (Layland) Holden. Born in New Bedford, he attended city schools and graduated from New Bedford High in 1936. He was the longtime proprietor of Earl L. Holden Inc., a wholesale auto parts business. Mr. Holden was a Selectman in the Town of Fairhaven from 1963—1968. He was a member of Wesley Methodist Church and served as its Sunday School superintendent. Later, he served as Deacon in the Fairhaven Congregational Church. He was an amateur pilot, an avid golfer, as amember of the New Bedford Country Club, and the Cummaquid Golf Club. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran of D-Day, serving in the African and European theaters and in the Pacific on minesweepers. Mr. Holden was a master Mason.
The funeral services will be held Saturday January 31, 2004 at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 11:30 A.M. The Reverend Paul O’Neil will be officiating. Visiting hours will be on Saturday, January 31, 2004 from 10 A.M.-12:30 P.M. In accordance with his wishes he will be cremated, with the interment to take place at a later date.
