New Bedford - Edward ”Mushy” Machado, age 74 years, died Thursday, April, 21, 2011 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Carolyn A. (Jackson) Machado. He was the father of Christine, wife of Joseph Hamm of Freetown, John Tetreault Jr. and Sandra Rousseau both of New Bedford and Dale Machado of Westport. Mr. Machado was the godchild of the late Adelaide Simmons. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and his mother in law, Beatrice Jackson of New Bedford.
Mr. Machado was the son of the late Emily (Correia) and Arthur Machado. Edward was born in New Bedford and was a resident of New Bedford and also resided in Northport, Fla. He was formerly employed by the New Bedford Ship Supply as an accountant.
He had 30 years of Military Service and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Bronze Star, an Air Medal and several other ribbons and commendations. He retired from the Mass National Guard having attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and was the Battalion Commander of the 211th Field Artillery.
Mr. Machado’s funeral will be Tuesday at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 10:30 A.M. Services will begin at 11:30 A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery with full military honors. Visiting Hours will be Monday from 5-8 P.M. Relatives and Friends are invited.
