Mary (Lima) Monteiro

New Bedford– Mary (Lima) Monteiro age 92 years, died Sunday, April 17, 2011 at Sacred Heart Nursing Home. Mary was the wife of Frank Furtado Monteiro of Dartmouth for 72 years. Mrs. Monteiro was the loved mother of Joyce O’Connell and her husband James of Chatham and the late Janice Marie Monteiro, loved grandmother of Christine Maclellan and James M. O’Connell Jr., loved sister of Joseph Lima, Raymond Lima, Sally Reis, Alice Rodriques and Vina Curtis. She was predeceased by brothers Gus Lima, Frank Lima, Edward Lima; and Sisters Emily Furtado, Lena Osswald, Eva Falcon, Florence Medeiros and Deloras Morris. Mrs. Monteiro is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Monteiro was a daughter of the late Maria (Mello) and Frank Lima, she was born in Fairhaven and has lived in this area all of her life. She was employed as a stitcher at local clothing mills until her retirement.

Mrs. Monteiro’s funeral will be Tuesday at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 8:45 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church Dartmouth at 10 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours are Monday from 4 - 7 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
