Edwin “Porky” Sylvia

New Bedford–Edwin “Porky” Sylvia, age 80, died Friday, April 2nd, at Scared Heart Nursing Home. He was the beloved husband of Barbara A. (Lawrence) Sylvia of New Bedford. Porky was the loved father of Gary E. Sylvia of New Bedford, Michael P. Sylvia of Dartmouth and Kenneth L. Sylvia of Ocala; FL. Mr. Sylvia was the grandfather of Katelyn, Kevin M. and Jerreth Sylvia and great-grandfather of Jeremy Batista and Justin Coelho. Edwin was the brother of Eleanor Bonas of Dartmouth and Frank Sylvia of New Bedford, also he was the brother of the late Phillis, Arthur, Deloris

Mr. Sylvia was the son of the late Nazareth (Marques) and Frank Sylvia. Porky was born in New Bedford and lived in this area all of his life. He was the proud owner of Clarks Cove Fish Co. for over 50 years. Edwin was a U.S. Army Military Police Veteran during the Korean War. He also was an avid Red Sox fan.


Mr. Sylvia’s service will be from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. on Tuesday at 11:30 A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours are from 10:00 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. before Service. Relatives and friends are invited.
