New Bedford – Evaristo Carreiro, age 87 years, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 20, 2011 at Southeastern Massachusetts Health & Rehab Center. He was the beloved husband of the late Olivia (Arruda) Carreiro. Mr. Carreiro was the loved father of Robert J. Carreiro, husband of Leanne of S. Yarmouth. He was the loving grandfather of Reggie, husband of Elizabeth of Fairhaven, Adam, Jonelle and the late Robert Carreiro and great grandfather of Phoenix, Diego and Amaya. Mr. Carreiro was the brother of Maria Lourdes Tavares of S. Dartmouth and Jose Carreiro, husband of Lourdes of Fall River and the late Conceicao Cordeiro, Joao Carreiro and Manuel Carreiro. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Carreiro was a son of the late Joao and Maria DaLuz (Costa) Carreiro. He was born in Agua De Pau, São Miguel, Açores and has lived in this area since 1957. Mr. Carreiro enjoyed his family, fishing, cooking and good wine. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and a member and the first vice president of the Our Lady of Angels Band.
Mr. Carreiro’s funeral will be from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. on Friday at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 5 - 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
