Emily Simmons

New Bedford-Emily (Souza) Simmons, age 86, died Sunday, January 16, 2011 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the widow of Manuel F. Simmons. Emily was the loved mother of Ronald Moniz of Mattapoisett, Mark Simmons, and Michael Simmons both of New Bedford, Paul Simmons of Londonderry, NH., Christine Monty of Dartmouth and Pauline Simmons of Swansea. Emily was the sister of Dorothy “Suzie” Da Silva of TX. Manuel “Charlie” Souza of Acushnet, Joseph Souza of New Bedford and the late Alfred P, Americo “Mac” and Louis Souza, Olinda “Lena” Sylvia, Mary Souza, Laura “Doris” Estrella and Martha Wilkinson. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Simmons was the daughter of the late Alfred and Caroline (Perreira) Souza. She was born in New Bedford and lived in this area all her life. She was a sales clerk at KMart until her retirement.

Mrs. Simmons will have a Memorial Service on Sunday February 6th at the Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. Sunday at 1:30 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family from 12:30-1:30 P.M. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Humane Society and Shelter – Southcoast, 31 Ventura Dr., N. Dartmouth, Ma 02747.

In accordance with her wishes she was cremated.
