Maria Correia

New Bedford –Maria (Oliveira) Correia, age 96 years, died Monday January 3, 2011 at Brandon Woods of New Bedford. She was wife of the late Horacio Correia and Jose Felipe DaSilva. Maria was the mother of Maria Gaipo and her husband Antonio of New Bedford, Jose Silva and his companion Maria Raposo of New Bedford, Gilberto daSilva and his wife Claire of New Bedford, and Leonilda Dias and her husband Alberto of Dartmouth. Grandmother of 13, and great grandmother of 18 she was the grandmother of the late Alberto Dias Jr.. Mrs Correia was the sister of the late Elvira Dias, Ana Fagundes, Amelia Oliveira, and Rufina Vargas. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Correia was a daughter of the late Maria daConceicao (Lopes) and Antonio Vicente Oliveira. She was born in Praia Do Almoxarife Faial, Azores and lived in this area since 1959. Maria was a Stitcher at various mills until her retirement. She loved being surrounded by her family, she enjoyed reading, her plants and playing guitar.

Mrs. Correia’s funeral will be Thursday at 9:30 A.M. at the Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow at St John Cemetery. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 5 to 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
