Albertina (Oliveira) Cancela

New Bedford –Albertina (Oliveira) Cancela, age 78 years, died at St. Luke's Hospital on Thursday, December 30, 2010. Albertina was the wife of Jose Cancela of New Bedford. Mrs. Cancela was the mother of Hilderberto Cancela of New Bedford, and grandmother of Lori Cancela and Jayme Cancela. She was the sister of Antonio Oliveira of Rhode Island, Isauro Oliveira of Canada, and Clara Silveira of St. Jorge Azores. Mrs. Cancela was also survived by several nieces and nephews. Several siblings predeceased her.

Mrs. Cancela was a daughter of the late Francisca Oliveira and Jaime Oliveira. She was born in Praia, Almoxarife, Faial, Açores Portugal, and has lived in this area since 1961. Albertina was employed as a stitcher at local dress factory until her retirement.

Mrs. Cancela ’s funeral will be Tuesday at the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 8:00 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours are Monday from 5-8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
