New Bedford-Natalia da Costa (Farias), 89, of New Bedford, passed away on December 22, 2010, at St. Anne’s hospital, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel, Açores and immigrated to the United States in 1967. She was the wife of the late Laurenio da Costa. Natalia was the oldest daughter of the late Jacinto and Maria do Carmo (Oliveira) Farias. She was the sister of the late Maria Espirto Santo Damaso, Maria Ortencia Machado, Manuelo Farias, Adriana Chadinha, and Laurenio Farias. She is survived by two sisters, Fernanda Martins and Margarida Estrela Santos. She is also survived by five children, Maria do Carmo (Martins) da Costa of New Bedford, three sons, Jacinto and his wife Lucia of New Bedford, Durval and his wife Fatima of Dartmouth, Laurenio and his wife Evelina of New Bedford, and Angie Randall and her husband Robert of Mattapoisett. Natalia was the proud grandmother of ten grandchildren and nine great –grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Her family was her pride and joy.

Mrs. da Costa’s funeral will be from the Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. Friday at 9 A.M with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe at St. James Church at 10 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours are Thursday from 6-8 P.M.
