Fairhaven – Celeste C. Pina , age 97 years, passed away peacefully Sunday December 12, 2010 at Our Lady’s Haven in Fairhaven. Celeste was the loving wife for 67 years of the late Antonio Pina, proud mother of Ronald A. Pina of South Dartmouth and devoted grandmother to Kari (Pina) Barcellos of Fairhaven.

Celeste came to this country in her teens from her native Gouevia, Portugal, and spent many of her years working in the textile mills of New Bedford and managing her husband’s contracting business. She was devoted to her family, spending countless hours campaigning for her son Ronald’s political career, and never tired of telling people “My Ronnie’s a good boy.” As a grandmother, Celeste spent many years taking care of her only grandchild Kari, and was known among Kari’s friends for always being willing to prepare one of her signature dishes as an afterschool snack.

Visiting hours are at the Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. Wednesday morning December 15, 2010 from 9:00 – 10:00 A.M. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will be with her husband at South Dartmouth Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers her family requests donations be made to the St. John the Baptist Church 344 County St. New Bedford, the oldest Portuguese Church in North America.
