Maria D. (Avelar) Freitas

Dartmouth – Maria Freitas, age 99 years, died at home after a brief Illness. She was the beloved wife of Jose Machado Freitas loving mother of Manuel Freitas of New Bedford, Teresa Pimentel of South Dartmouth, and the late Germano Freitas, Maria doCarmo Pimentel, and Bernadette Freitas. Mrs Freitas also leaves behind 9 grandchildren.

Mrs Freitas was the daughter of the late Maria do Ceu (Dias) and Manuel D. Avelar. She was born in Flores, Azores and has lived in the New Bedford area since 1972.

Mrs. Freitas’ funeral will be Saturday from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 7:45 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 8:45 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours are Friday Evening from 5 – 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
