New Bedford – Virginia Correia, age 97, has gone home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 15, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the wife of the late Ventura S. Correia. Survivors include her loving children Virginia Brunton of S. Dartmouth, Maria Olivia DeMello of Fairhaven, Maria Bernadette Ramos of New Bedford, Gabriela S. Gagnier of Tennesee, and Henry Simoes Correia of New Bedford, 25 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren. Her siblings Jose Viveiros, Inez Furtado, Lourdes Arruda, Conceicao Carvalho, and several deceased siblings and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Manuel Ventura Correia.
Mrs. Correia was a daughter of the late Maria (Arruda) and Manuel “Simbala” Viveiros. She was born in Taunton, MA. Virginia spent her life in Sao Miguel Acores until1948 and had lived in New Bedford since then.
Mrs. Correia’s funeral will be from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. on Friday at 8 A.M. with a Religious Service at the Funeral home at 9:30 A.M. Pastor Lima will be officiating. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will take place at St. John Cemetery.
