Joseph Correia

New Bedford - Joseph Correia of New Bedford, 89, died Wednesday December 10, 2003 at St.Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Emily (Perry) Correia and widower of Hilda (Souza) Correia. He was the father of Joseph Correia Jr. of New Bedford and Elaine S. Lucas of New Bedford, grandfather of Tracy Perry, Sherry Lambert, Joshua Correia, Jason Correia, Rebecca Correia and Shannon Correia, brother of Emily Archambault of Portsmouth, R.I., he had 3 great grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.Mr. Correia was also brother of the late John Correia, Edwina Cunha, Mary Albert and Lydia Correia.

Mr. Correia was born in Fairhaven, MA., the son of Antone Veiga Correia and Julia (Santos) Correia and lived in this area all of his life. Mr. Correia was a machinist at NU ERA GEAR and was the former proprietor of J. Correia's Ice & Oil. He was a charter member of the Paskamansett Beagle Club, a former member of the New Bedford Fishing Club and a former member of the Horseneck, Fairhaven, Mattapoisett and Westport Holy Ghost Societies. Mr. Correia also served as an auctioneer at local feasts. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

Visiting hours for Mr. Correia will be on Sunday December 14, 2003 from 2 - 5 P.M. at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are invited. In accordance with his wishes Mr. Correia will be cremated. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
