Idalina Calheta

New Bedford - Idalina (Frias) Calheta, 90, of New Bedford, died Tuesday December 9, 2003 at St. Luke's Hospital. She was the widow of Manuel Calheta. Mrs. Calheta is survived by her 10 children: Aldora Araujo of N. Dartmouth, Eduardo, Alfredo and Manuel Calheta of New Bedford, Ilda Medeiros and Teresa DaCunha of New Bedford, Maria Hermangildo of N. Dartmouth, Mary Lee Casmira of Fairhaven, Antonio and Joe Calheta of Westport, 36 Grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren, a sister Maria Medeiros of New Bedford and a niece and a nephew.

Mrs. Calheta was born in Taunton and returned to St. Michael, Azores until 1969, when she returned to this area, she was the daughter of Francisco and Angelina (Conceicao) Frias.Mrs. Calheta was a retired stitcher who had worked in the local textile mills.

The funeral will be Thursday from Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Rivet Street. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, New Bedford, Ma. Visiting hours are Wednesday December 11th from 6 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
