New Bedford-Claudette Mae “Mémère” O’Malley age 76 years died Monday October 4th at St. Luke’s Hospital surrounded by her loved ones. Mom was the loving wife of John J. O’Malley Jr. who died March 2, 1979. She was the mother of John J. O’Malley III and his wife Catherine Mae Casey-O’Malley of New Bedford, Dr. Donald E. O’Malley and his wife Sheri of Falmouth, Maureen A. Trahan and her husband Jean Pierre of Freetown, Michael Patrick O’Malley and his wife Sandra of New Bedford, Janet E. Maloney and her husband Patrick of New Bedford, David T. O’Malley and his wife Jo-Ann of Rochester, and Christine Emma Doty and her husband Richard of South Carolina. Mom was proud of all her children and gave special thanks to God for her grandchildren. She was the loved Mémère of Molly Trahan, Bridget Maloney Jessica O’Malley, Colleen Maloney, Lauren O’Malley, Austin Jack O’Malley and Tyler John Trahan who was Killed-in-Action in Iraq on April 30, 2009 and will never be forgotten. Mom became a Grandé Mémère on September 29th with the addition of Gabriel Charles Goddu, Claudette was the sister of Lt.Colonel E. Donald Allain who predeceased her. Mom is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Claudette was the daughter of the late Edmund “Eddie” and Emma (Breton) Allain.
Mother was born in Acushnet but was a lifelong resident of New Bedford. Mom graduated from Sacred Hearts Academy, Fairhaven and Saint Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing, Class of “54”. A parishioner of the former Sacred Heart Church and presently at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish were she was a member of the Ladies Guild, also a member of the St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association and St. Luke’s Retiree Club, the Greater New Bedford Chapter of the Fall River Diocesan Council of Catholic Nurses. Mémère was also a former member of Lé Cotillion.
Mother’s funeral will be on Friday October 8th at Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. at 9:45 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish at 11 A.M. In accordance with Mom’s wishes she will be cremated. Burial of her Cremains will be private. Visiting hours will be Thursday evening from 5-8 P.M.
