New Bedford- Joseph M. Saraiva age 90 years passed away Saturday June 26, 2010 at the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home. He was born in Fall River and lived most of his life in the New Bedford area. Mr. Saraiva was the son of the late Evangelina (Brizida) and John Saraiva. He was the brother of the late John Saraiva, Carmen Braz, Evangelina Correia, and Marie Saraiva. He was pre deceased by his loving companion Maja Veara and his former wife Helen (Viera) Mickool.
Joseph was the beloved father of Brenda J. Lopes of Dartmouth, and Joseph M. Saraiva Jr. of Deerfield Beach Florida, loved grandfather of Curt A. Jordan and his wife Natalie of Dartmouth, James P. Saraiva and Lynsey M. Saraiva both of Florida, and 4 great grandsons. He is also survived by his niece Linda Barboza and her husband Louis, his nephews, Robert Braz and his wife Janice, Richard Braz and his wife Edie and Daniel Saraiva and his wife Mary. Joe will be missed by his best friend Edmund Salomonsen.
Joseph worked as a Truck Driver at Old Colony Transportation Co. and was a member of the New England Teamsters Union. He loved boating, playing cards and traveling.At this time the family would like to thank the entire staff of the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home for the excellent care, kindness and love that was provided to Joe.
Mr. Saraiva’s funeral service will be at the Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. Thursday at 11:00 A.M. with Fr. Wilson Officiating. Visiting hours are from 9 - 11 A.M. prior to the Service on Thursday. Interment will be at South Dartmouth Cemetery.
