New Bedford-Maria V. “Conceicao Cabral” Rego age 85 years died Wednesday June 9th at the New Bedford Health Care Center after a long illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Aniceto Ernesto Rego. Maria was the loving mother of Jose and Horacio Rego both of Dartmouth, Maria Baptista, Ernest Rego and Paul Rego all of New Bedford, Dino Rego of Assonet and the late John Rego. Maria was the sister of the late Maria Vieira Cabral, Libania Goncalo, Jose Vieira and Manuel Cabral. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and was the grandmother of the late Joseph Rego, and many nieces, nephews.
Mrs. Rego was the daughter of the late Jose Vieira and Maria Odelia (Rita) Cabral. She was born in Ribeira Quente and moved here in 1970. Maria was a floor lady at various mills, and Lorraine’s Sportswear until her retirement. She was a member of the Legion of Mary, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Ladies of the Rosaries. “Conceicao Cabral” loved to cook, assisting her sister in the garden and totally dedicated her life to her family.
Mrs. Rego’s Funeral will be from the Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. on Saturday at 8 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 9 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Friday 5-8 P.M.
