Agnes Avery, 84, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, May 23rd. She was the wife of the late Frederick E. Avery. Born and raised in New Bedford, the daughter of the late John Alfonse and Mary (Simas) Alfonse, she lived in South Dartmouth with her daughter for the past 19 years.

Mrs. Avery was employed by F.W. Woolworth from 1962 to 1994. She ran the lunch counter at the Acushnet Avenue store for 20 years. Mrs. Avery enjoyed trips to New York City, Atlantic City, and day trips to Foxwoods Casino. She also enjoyed music, poetry and letting you know who the culprit was in each episode of Murder She Wrote and Law and Order. Hosting an annual “joke gift” party for her family was the highlight of each of her years from the time her children were young.

Mrs. Avery is survived by her daughter Carol A. Bellefeuille and her husband Donald of South Dartmouth, her daughter Rosella M. DeTerra and her companion David Desnoyers of Mattapoisett, her son Frederick E. Avery Jr. and his wife Sally of South Dartmouth, her brother Alfred Alfonse and his wife Adeline of South Dartmouth, four grandsons, James F. DeTerra III and his wife Nicole of Assonet, John F. Roy of Fairhaven, Mark and Neil Avery of South Dartmouth, four great grandsons Timothy Imbriglio Roy, Tate, Casey and Jacob DeTerra, one great granddaughter, Emma DeTerra, and nephew Thomas W. Alfonse and his wife Carol of Dartmouth. She was the grandmother of the late Steven F DeTerra and great grandmother of Hannah A. Roy.

Funeral services for Mrs. Avery will be private. Memorial donations in her honor may be made to Community Nurse & Hospice Care, 62 Center Street, Fairhaven, MA.02719
