Joao R. Camara

New Bedford - Joao R. Camara, age 90 years, died Friday, April 30, 2010 at home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the Regina R. (Raposo) Camara of New Bedford for over 64 years. Joao was the father of Leonel Camara, husband of Lydia of S. Dartmouth and Vidalia "Vicky" Aguiar, wife of Gil Teixeira of N. Dartmouth. Mr. Camara was the grandfather of Lisa Clark, wife of Tyronne Clark and Rosey Brazida. He is survived by three great-grandsons: Tyler Brazida, Tristenn and Sheldon Clark and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Camara was also predeceased by three sisters.

Mr. Camara was a son of the late Joao R. and Antonia (Araujo) Camara. Antone was born in Mosteiros, St. Michael, Azores and has lived in this area for over 43 years. He was employed as a machinist at Aerovox Corp. Mr. Camara liked hunting, watching soccer and going to functions featuring the band from Clube Senhora daConceicao Mosteirense of Fall River, of which he was a member.

Mr. Camara’s funeral will be Tuesday at 9:30 A.M. at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St., with a Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Monday from 5 to 8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
