Maria E. (Gouveia) Benevides

New Bedford – Maria E. (Gouveia) Benevides, age 79, died Saturday, February 27, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital, after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Antonio O. Benevides. Maria was the mother of Maria J. Correia, wife of Victor of Dartmouth, John Benevides, husband of Maria of Westport and Gus Benevides husband of Maria of Dartmouth. She was the grandmother of Paulo, Stephen, Priscilla, Kimberly, Jonathan, Jennifer and Victoria. Mrs. Benevides was the sister of Eusebia Carvalho of Tiverton, Dinarte Gouveia of New Bedford and Alda Gouveia of St. Michael. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Benevides was a daughter of the late Maria (Oliveira) and Agostinho Gouveia. She was born in Madeira, Portugal and lived in this area since 1969. Mrs. Benevides was employed as a stitcher at Judy Kay until her retirement.

Mrs. Benevides’ funeral will be Tuesday at 7:45 A.M at Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 A.M. at St. Mary’s Church, S. Dartmouth. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours will be on Monday from 5 - 8 P.M.
